M A R G A R E T B A R N A B YA resident of Hawaii and Squam Lake, New Hampshire, Margaret Barnaby's use of watercolor in tight composition continues to fascinate viewers. Her sometimes humorous, sometimes exotic subjects are placed on patterned fabric. Both fabric and subjects are treated with the same exquisite execution and control not usually identified with watercolor painting. Her color is bright, and intense. Voodoo dolls, skeletons, reptiles and flowers invite the viewer into Barnaby's world.
A graduate with a BA in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design, Barnaby's primary focus has been designing and fabricating jewelry. She has executed sculpture and watercolor commissions, illustrated guides, and magazine covers. Her monotypes have been placed in corporate collection including Texas Instruments, UPS and J.P. Morgan.
Also on exhibit at the gallery are Barnaby's "fruits." Wrapped canvases of island fruits are painted in a style reminiscent of the Old Masters. Textile-like borders lend a modern twist. Small and well-priced these works are irresistible. A diverse and multi-talented artist, Barnaby has exhibited at Patricia Carega Gallery for the past two summers.
