Reception June 25th from 5- 7 p.m. The Portfolio Project is presented by 24 Peregrine Press artists. The Peregrine Press is a non profit printmaking cooperative in Portland, Maine. Several years ago twenty four artists each executed a print of the same size for this Project. Editions were limited to ten prints. The prints were placed in a Portfolio for purchase. Now in permanent collections throughout New England, there are only three Portfolios left to acquire in their entirety. One set of prints was framed but has not been available for individual sale until exhibit at Patricia Ladd Carega Gallery. This diverse exhibit explores print making techniques as well as imagery. Etchings with chine colle, woodcuts , Xerox lithographs , monotypes, silkscreens, dry point and solar plate etching are among the processes used in the exhibit. Images vary from landscapes to armadillos.

Opening July 20th: "Opposites Attract". Figurative work will share the same walls with abstract while the viewer is asked to compare color, composition, light and shade, perspective, depth, rhythm and balance. Materials such as oil, collage, watercolor or mixed media are also points of interest as well as the surface worked upon: wood, canvas, or paper. The participating artists are also opposites. Both men and women will be represented. Are more men abstract artists? Unfortunately this exhibit does not answer that question beyond the realms of this gallery. Participating artists include CC White, Chris Thompson,Michael Rich and Barbara Brady for team Abstract. Michael Doyle, Sally Wolf, Gay Freeborn and Susan Landor Keegin will represent Team Figurative. We look forward to this exhibit as often the test of a good figurative painting is to hang it upside down to see if it works as an abstract. Also on view "Inside and Out" Robin Dustin's wood work, Kathryn Field's metal work and Shandra McLane's glass fused bowls inside and outside Madeleine Lord's sculpture from scrap metal: Rare Species Garden.

“Terra, Terra: Landscapes from Paris to Provence to Squam Lake and Beyond” will open next week at Patriicia Ladd Carega Gallery, 69 Maple Street in Center Sandwich. The opening reception will be on August 18th from 5 to 7 p.m. This summer the gallery has received some very beautiful landscapes and gardenscapes from its artists working abroad and here in the Lakes Region. Among exhibiting artiists is Donna Balsan who lives in Paris and Melvin Village. Her new work includes studies of roses and paintings of trees in oil on kraft paper. Mark Stewart painted charming landscapes in watercolor remembered from his ride on the train from Paris to Nice while Saira Austin’s work reflects her studies last summer in Provence. Sandwich artist, Sallie Wolf, exhibits new lake views and panoramas of Sandwich Bay. Jen Van Cor’s new work remembers vacations on the Maine Coast as well as time spent in her garden in Effingham. Gail Roberstson’s moody work from Mill Valley, California is as ever soft and quiet while Moultonborough artist, Kay Ives has given us a different perspective to local scenery. Rushing water define Kathryn Field’s paintings while Liz Nelson’s work begins with a photograph and ends with a painting.
Opening Reception: Sun, August 28 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Opening on Sunday, August 28th is an new and wonderfully impromtu exhibit of paintings by Chicago artist James Kao who has been the artist in residence at Mead base for August 2011. His mission has been to create new work inspired by the forest. The new artist in residency program is the brainchild of The White Mountain National Forest and the Arts Association of Northern New England. James Kao is an exceptional painter whose abstract work seems to freely float in a quiet space that engages the viewer in a sort of meditation. In the forests of New Hampshire he will see trees as seen by you and I but he also is able to see the spaces between the trees which become essential elements to his paintings. The colors from the forest are important to this body of work. A portion of all proceeds from sales will benefit the Friends of Mead Base, The White Mountain National Forest and The Arts Alliance of Northern New Hampshire.

It is always sad at this time of year when the art that makes the barn such a fascinating place in the summer time gives way to skis, sleds, snowshoes, toboggans, snow shovels and cars in the winter time. The website will be our show place for the winter months so please check in for cyber shows, gift ideas and winter art events. Visit your favorite artist and remember just because we are closed does not mean we cannot get a painting to your house for a trial run. Elaine, CC and I have enjoyed our conversations with you this summer. It is always a pleasure to talk about work in the gallery and beyond. We wish you all a wonderful winter and look forward to another season next May. We are working on our schedule which will bring more exciting exhibits, intriguing workshops, discussion groups and of course our second annual artist's cocktail party. The creativity is flowing . In the meantime thank you for your interest in the gallery. Next year we celebrate ten years in business in Sandwich. Ideas for a celebration are welcome! Patricia, CC and Elaine
